2014 Spring Semi-annual LSA Conference
The LSA Student Chapter (LSA) hosted its 2014 Spring Semi-Annual Leadership Conference. LSA’s purpose was to proliferate and support the students and professionals in attendance to accessing the industry proven Leadership Alignment Model, which has been shown to significantly improve project management and the delivery of services. LSA hosted companies like Vanguard, Yelp, Target, and American Express. International renowned Dr. Dean Kashiwagi, creator of the Leadership Alignment Model, spoke on the impact it has had in the industry and on the students of Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. The Leadership Alignment Model is currently taught in 5 classes, and hosts a network of over 700 students who have taken a course within the last 4 years. It has maintained a 4.71 out of 5 rating. At the conference, Dr. Dean proposed to the companies in attendance that they should consider partnering with the class in order to utilize and network with the students who have been exposed to the Leadership Alignment Model, to work on projects and add value.
Leadership is not management. Leadership uses identification of expertise and the alignment of expert resources. Management uses direction and control in attempt to mitigate risk. Leadership hires experts. Management disregards expertise. Leadership changes the environment. Management tries to change the people. Leaders look at the environment from 30K feet. As the professional environment changes, leadership becomes the key and not technical expertise. People confuse leadership and management.
